Western culture considers that eating a dog is cruel, barbaric and disgusting (not illegal, though), but ironically we have no problem eating all other sorts of animals as long as they are not called pets.
But for the vast majority of people on earth, cultural values are very different. Dog meat is considered a delicacy in some asian cultures, and indeed cooked dog meat is very tasty and protein rich. You should try it some day! (if you are not vegetarian)
"Food dogs" are not pets and they have no names. They are bred and raised in farms, just like pigs, cows, lambs, chickens and other farm animals. They are usually put down "humanely" just like any other farm animal, by slitting the throat and bleeding the animal until it passes out.- However some disturbing cases of food dogs being tortured before being slaughtered have been documented.
This series of photos shows the process involved in preparing a dog for dinner, from slautering to cutting-up, eviscerating, de-boning, cooking and of course eating! These photos were taken in Bac Ha, a small town in the Northern part of Vietnam, and in various markets of the region.
In case you are wondering, I did not order the dog for dinner, I just stumbled on the scene in the street and documented it, since I had my camera.

how on earth is it possible for a human being to eat his/her best friend......i hope one day this outragingly disgusting eating habit stops. One person previously said that 'it is their tradition'...my friend, in Spain bullfighting WAS as well their tradition but thank god and all activists's persistence it is now officially being banned. The last fact i mentioned, is an example of how the world is changing for the better- and you and your people should do it too if you wish to be called civilized.
The difference between a dog and a sheep / cow, is that a dog knows what's coming. A dog will look you in the eye, a cow or sheep won't. Furthermore, it is a scientific fact that through years of domestication, dogs have learned to read human language. We as humans always look to the right hemisphere of the face to read facial language when we greet. (this happens in the first split second). Dogs do exactly the same and are the only animal to look to the right hemisphere of our face other than ourselves of course. Tests have been done hiding food under cups and then pointing to the cup with the hidden food. Even chimps cannot understand the prompt and will go to the wrong cup 50% of the time, even after repeated tests. Dogs understand the prompt instantly. In fact if you just look at the cup hiding the food, the dog will be watching your face intently and see the prompt instantly. I understand that different parts of the world have different cultures, but this does not sit comfortably with me. Nor does whale hunting.
i agree with echo... i as a filipino i eat dog meat, "the dog is not always a part of the family but a part of the menu" we have this practice since the time of our ancestors. so please don't condemn us...."a mans food is another mans poison"
That is absolutely horrid! How can anyone do that to a poor creature?! I'm not usually a violent person, but I would like to personally beat whoever did this. I don't know why someone would willingly kill a dog or any other animal for that matter, and anyone who does obviously doesn't have a heart, morals or a sense of right and wrong. It makes me so angry that people are capable of this!
Asians don't consume anywhere near the volume of meat that Americans do. So A dog is an occasional delicasy for those who can afford it. Cows and pigs are cheaper to raise in the US because we have so much productive land. Dogs could be fed like pigs and we could enjoy dog often .

All I know, Is you guys are crazy. I have never EVER seen cows, pigs, or any other farm animal caged like that. That is pretty disgusting. Although, I do agree there is such a thing as a wild dog and we need to realize that all cultures are different. But also, most cultures do recognize dogs as a PET and not ONLY as food. Even ASIAN cultures. I just think it is sick how they are held in those little cages all squished together and stuff. And what the hek is wrong with you talking about humans looking the same way!?!? You sir. Are crazy. I have to agree that dogs are quite a bit smarter than any other farm animal out there, and that most dogs are good for companionship. And btw to whoever said COYOTES would attack you, a coyote is much more afraid of you, than you are of it. They are scavengers, meaning they feed off of the animals that are already dead. Not saying they have NEVER attacked someone, but it is incredibly rare. I am a christian person though and my belief is this, it says in Genesis 1:26 "...and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." So if you ask me, if its gonna help you as a human, and you need food, eat a dog. But I live in the US and that's pretty un heard of. So you guys in Asia and elswhere, have at it. haha. Maybe someday I too will try wild dog... Who knows. Peace out guys.

Remember this people humans are animals, we fuck, kill, an eat what ever we want. So to all those who think that eating ANYTHING is wrong, then you need to pull your lower lip up over your head an swallow. You have free will it was give to us monkeys by this so called "God" entity. If this entity did not want us to have the choice to eat tasty meaty goodness. Then we would not be able to. so, like "cows are devoted to the meat"? try to explain that to someone in india. in india, cows are sacred, and eating a cow is considered barbaric and completely disgusting. and try to explain to a muslim the "pigs are devoted to the meat"... eating pigs is against their religious belief.

i think that dogs choose to be your friend because they know that if they are nice with you, you will feed them. that's how animals become pets. but if you meet a wild dog in the forest (e.g. a cayote or a wolf), i think they will try to eat you, rather than try to be your friend.

I disagree dogs indeed do have the power to attack, kill and eat humans but the choose to be our friends we should give them respect because they can do a lot they help save our life's i have a service dog and personally don't agree eating dogs for food
the world isnt the same everywhere you know... the culture you grew up with is different from theirs... what makes you think you can just go and make radical changes to another culture just because you dont know much about the different lifestyles in other parts of the world... just remember theres families who depend on this cultural practice to get by... you have to introduce something else they can do to make a living...

actually no, these dogs are raised in farms, just like pigs, and they are not pets and they have no name. and they are not used in dog fights, they are just used for meat, just like pigs are.
they would of only done it beacuse it was starving, if the man hadnt been bleeding after death or anything the dog wouldnt of till he figured out wat had happened

This isn't cruel at all. Its actually normal, and like most people have already commented; most humans consume meat such as cows, pigs etc... , why should eating dog be any different? Us humans eat them, and it's because we can. If those animals had the power to, then they would do the same. Humans are just sad creatures, and our existence causes more suffering then any other being. ( And yes, this may make me seem like a hypocrite, because I too am Human and eat meat. )
you are forgetting that this animal was not a pet. it was raised for food, just like pigs, and it had no name. i don't believe that some animals are "purposed" to be pets, and some other animals are "purposed" to be eaten. pigs are smarter than dogs, yet people eat them with no afterthoughts. i hope you are vegetarian. if not, you are terribly hypocritical. if you consider that eating dog meat is a sin, you should consider that eating the meat of any animal is a sin. i hope those photos can make you think twice tefore you buy meat in your supermarket. how can you be sure that the animal you will eat was not someone's pet?
This is so incredibly demonic! Even though it is part of culture, society should be able to differentiate between a meal for a family to the slaughtering of an animal that was purposed to give companionship and joy to its owner. What ABSURDITY this is! I honestly believe that if someone is able to cut a dog's body open without, the least bit of remorse or guilt, is utterly monstrous. Please, I will pray for this "feasting" to cease and hope that God has mercy upon them if "society" all of the sudden decides that a human isn't any different from cows, chicken, or pig, just as you have elucidated. It is websites like these that not inspire, but oblige me as a civilized being to dedicate my life to stopping this cause and relieving others involved of their sinful doings.

Dogs are faithful companions huh? Tell that to the guy who was eaten by his own beloved dog after dying in his upstairs apartment in Detroit. True story, told to me by the police officer that found the guy (with his chest cavity eaten out) and promptly blew the mutt away. He hates dogs, a sentiment that I share. It does my heart good to see these mutts as meat.
